Consultant Rheumatologist

A major Dubai private hospital with a well-established musculoskeletal and rheumatology service is recruiting a Consultant Rheumatologist. The service is supported by dedicated rheumatology nurses, a biologic therapy infusion suite, a DEXA scanning facility, and close links with orthopaedic surgery, physiotherapy, and immunology.

About the Role

This role offers a broad outpatient and inpatient rheumatology caseload with an active biologic therapy programme. The successful candidate will manage complex inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue diseases, and vasculitis, and will contribute to the development of the department’s biologics and biosimilars service.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead rheumatology outpatient clinics managing rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, lupus, Sjögren’s syndrome, vasculitis, and crystal arthropathies
• Initiate and monitor biologic and targeted synthetic DMARD therapy including TNF inhibitors, IL-17/IL-23 inhibitors, JAK inhibitors, and rituximab
• Perform joint injections and aspirations including hip, knee, shoulder, small joints, and tendon sheaths
• Provide inpatient rheumatology consultation for acute inflammatory flares, connective tissue disease complications, and inflammatory musculoskeletal emergencies
• Lead the biologic therapy infusion clinic in collaboration with specialist rheumatology nurses
• Participate in the MSK MDT with physiotherapy, orthopaedics, and orthopaedic rehabilitation
• Contribute to biosimilar switching programmes, audit, and governance
• Mentor junior medical staff and educate nursing staff on DMARD safety monitoring

Requirements & Qualifications

• Medical degree with full postgraduate training in Rheumatology
• Fellowship or Consultant-grade certification (FRCP Rheumatology, Arab Board, or equivalent)
• Minimum 8 years post-specialist experience with an active biologic therapy practice
• DHA Consultant-grade eligibility or existing DHA Rheumatology license
• Documented competency in joint injection and aspiration techniques
• Biologic prescribing and DMARD safety monitoring experience
• Interest in connective tissue disease or vasculitis management preferred
• Strong academic record with participation in clinical audit and governance
