Medical Careers in the UAE

You need a recognised medical degree (MBBS, MD, or equivalent), a valid medical license from your home country or country of practice, and a minimum of 2 years of post-internship clinical experience. For Specialist roles, typically 3–5 years of post-qualification experience is required; for Consultant positions, 7+ years plus fellowship or board certification. All qualifications must be verified through Primary Source Verification (PSV) via the DataFlow Group before a UAE license can be issued.

UAE hospitals use a three-tier clinical grading system: General Practitioners (GPs) provide primary and urgent care, typically with 1–3 years’ experience; Specialists have completed a recognised specialty training programme and hold a specialty board or fellowship; Consultants are senior specialists with 7+ years of post-specialist experience, typically holding a CCT, FRCS, FACP, or equivalent. Salary and privileges increase significantly at each level.

For DHA (Dubai): You can complete up to the registration stage without a job offer, but your license only activates once an employer facility sponsors you. For DOH (Abu Dhabi) and MOHAP (other emirates): the process is similar. Western-trained doctors (UK, USA, Australia) may qualify for exam exemptions under certain DHA/DOH recognition schemes, but qualified specialists from other regions are routinely licensed and placed in UAE hospitals.
