An established Ajman hospital group running active elective and emergency general surgery services is recruiting a Specialist General Surgeon. The hospital has three fully equipped operating theatres, a laparoscopic surgery suite, an ICU, and a high-dependency surgical ward, supporting a broad range of elective and emergency general surgical procedures.

About the Role

This role offers a varied general surgery caseload spanning colorectal, upper GI, hepatobiliary, thyroid, and breast surgery alongside emergency general surgical care. The candidate will maintain a regular theatre list, conduct outpatient surgical clinics, and provide inpatient surgical consultation.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform elective laparoscopic and open general surgical procedures including laparoscopic cholecystectomy, appendicectomy, hernia repair, and bowel resection
• Manage emergency surgical presentations including acute appendicitis, bowel obstruction, perforated viscus, and acute cholecystitis
• Conduct surgical outpatient clinics for breast lumps, thyroid nodules, abdominal hernias, colorectal symptoms, and biliary disease
• Perform endoscopic procedures including upper GI and colonoscopy as relevant to the workload
• Provide perioperative care and daily ward rounds for post-operative surgical patients
• Participate in emergency on-call surgical cover in rotation with the general surgery team
• Contribute to morbidity and mortality review, surgical audit, and departmental governance
• Supervise and teach junior doctors, surgical interns, and theatre nursing staff

Requirements & Qualifications

• Medical degree with full postgraduate specialty training in General Surgery
• Specialist-grade qualification in Surgery (FRCS General Surgery, Arab Board Surgery, or equivalent)
• Minimum 3 years post-specialist experience in a hospital-based general surgery unit
• MOHAP Specialist-grade eligibility or existing MOHAP General Surgery license
• Proficiency in laparoscopic abdominal surgery including cholecystectomy, appendicectomy, and hernia repair
• Competency in emergency surgical management of acute abdominal conditions
• Upper GI and colorectal experience is preferred
• Strong teamwork and communication skills for multidisciplinary surgical care
