Consultant Hematologist | Abu Dhabi, UAE

A major Abu Dhabi tertiary hospital with a comprehensive hematology and BMT service is recruiting a Consultant Hematologist. The department offers a full spectrum of benign and malignant haematology services including outpatient haematology clinics, haemato-oncology day unit, diagnostic laboratory support, and a stem cell transplant programme.

About the Role

The successful candidate will lead haematology outpatient and inpatient services, contribute to the bone marrow transplant programme, and participate in the haematology-oncology MDT. This is a senior role with genuine opportunities to shape departmental service development.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead haematology outpatient clinics managing anaemia, haemoglobinopathies, coagulopathies, ITP, haemophilia, lymphoma, leukaemia, myeloma, and myelodysplastic syndrome
• Manage inpatient haematology admissions including febrile neutropenia, haematological emergencies, and transfusion-dependent anaemias
• Contribute to the allogeneic and autologous stem cell transplant programme as part of the BMT team
• Perform bone marrow aspiration and trephine biopsy and interpret morphological findings
• Prescribe and monitor chemotherapy protocols for haematological malignancies including CHOP, R-CVP, bendamustine, and novel targeted agents
• Lead and contribute to the haematology-oncology MDT alongside medical oncology, radiation oncology, and laboratory medicine
• Contribute to clinical governance, haematology audit, and protocol development
• Supervise and mentor haematology trainees and advanced practice nurses

Requirements & Qualifications

• Medical degree with full postgraduate training in Haematology
• Fellowship or Consultant-grade certification (FRCPath Haematology, ABIM Hematology, Arab Board, or equivalent)
• Minimum 8 years post-specialist experience in clinical and laboratory haematology
• DOH Consultant-grade eligibility or existing DOH Haematology license
• Experience in haemato-oncology and stem cell transplantation
• Proficiency in bone marrow aspiration and biopsy procedures
• Laboratory haematology and blood bank liaison experience
• Strong MDT leadership and communication skills
