The UAE has no single national medical licence. Dubai licenses through the DHA, Abu Dhabi through the DOH, and the five Northern Emirates through the federal MOHAP — with Dubai Healthcare City adding its own free zone licence. Your target employer’s location decides your authority, and each authority maintains its own portal, tiers and review committees.

The Process Spine Every Authority Shares

Whichever authority you apply to, the sequence is the same: eligibility and tier assessment against your qualifications; primary source verification of your credentials through DataFlow; the Prometric licensing exam where your tier requires it; issuance of your eligibility letter or licence; and activation once a UAE employer sponsors you. Run well, the whole journey takes three to six months — run badly, each stage can double.

Choosing Your Authority Strategically

Doctors rarely choose an authority in the abstract — they choose a job, and the authority follows. But strategy still matters: verified credentials transfer between authorities, exam results are recognised across them, and an eligibility letter from one regulator strengthens your negotiating position everywhere. We often run candidates toward the authority with the strongest current demand in their specialty, then transfer later if the dream offer lands elsewhere.
