Frequently Asked Questions: Medical Career Placement in the UAE

What to expect when working with a UAE healthcare recruitment and placement service.

What benefits are typically included in a UAE doctor employment package?

Standard UAE doctor employment packages include: tax-free base salary, housing allowance or furnished accommodation (typically 20–40% of base salary), comprehensive health insurance for you and eligible dependents, annual return economy or business class flights to your home country, transport allowance or company car, 30 days paid annual leave, public holiday entitlement, end-of-service gratuity (21 days basic salary per year for the first 5 years, 30 days thereafter), and employer-paid visa and licensing fees. Senior Consultants may also receive school fees, club memberships, and relocation allowances.

How competitive are medical positions in the UAE?

The UAE has one of the most active healthcare recruitment markets in the world, with strong and consistent demand for qualified Specialists and Consultants. While competition exists, shortages in key specialties — including Emergency Medicine, Oncology, Cardiology, Neurology, and Anesthesiology — mean that well-qualified doctors with clean professional records typically receive offers relatively quickly. Working with an established medical recruitment agency significantly improves your speed and success rate.

Can my family relocate with me when I work as a doctor in the UAE?

Yes. UAE employers typically sponsor dependent visas for a doctor’s spouse and children under 18 (sometimes up to 25 if in full-time education). Many senior packages include school fees for dependent children and health insurance for the entire family. The UAE has an outstanding international school system, particularly in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, with curricula from the UK, USA, IB, and many other educational systems available.

What is end-of-service gratuity and how is it calculated for doctors in the UAE?

End-of-service gratuity is a mandatory lump-sum payment made by UAE employers to employees who complete at least 1 year of service. For the first 5 years, gratuity is calculated at 21 days of basic salary per year worked; for years 6 onwards, it increases to 30 days of basic salary per year. For example, a doctor earning AED 50,000/month in basic salary after 5 years would receive approximately AED 175,000 in gratuity. Gratuity is paid on departure and is in addition to your regular salary.
